Web Design

Not for profit website design that works as hard as your volunteers

Not for profit website design for Australian charities and community groups: explain your work, recruit volunteers and take donations in one place.

Part of Marketing for Not for Profits

For community organisations

Not for profit website design with three jobs to do

Rock Solid Marketing provides not for profit website design for charities and community organisations across Australia: websites that explain your services, recruit volunteers and take donations. It's part of our not for profit marketing.

Your website talks to more people than most business sites. Someone who needs your help, a would-be volunteer, a donor at tax time and a grant assessor checking you're real may all land on the same page. Each needs a clear path, and your small team needs to keep it current without a developer.

Website packages start from $5,000 + GST. The first step is a free 30-minute discovery call.

Common problems

What gets in the way, and how we fix it

  1. Our website was built by a volunteer years ago and nobody can update it.

    What we do

We rebuild it on a system your staff and volunteers can edit, carry your useful content across and show your team how to keep it current.

  2. Donations go through a clunky link most people miss.

    What we do

We put a clear donate button on every page and link it to the platform you already use, so giving takes a few taps on a phone.

What we build

Web design for nonprofits, built for small teams

Clear paths for the people you help, volunteers, donors and funders.

Services explained plainly

Who you help, how to get support and what it costs, written in plain English and Easy Read where your clients need it.

Donations made simple

A donate button on every page, linked to your existing donation platform. We only mention tax deductibility if your organisation holds DGR status.

Volunteers and events

Volunteer roles, an application form and an events calendar your team can update, so recruitment doesn't depend on a Facebook post.

Impact your funders can see

Annual reports, impact stories shared with consent and partner logos, so grant assessors and donors can see what you do.

Accessible to everyone

Built to WCAG 2.2 AA, with clear contrast, readable type and forms that work with screen readers, because your audience includes people with disability.

Easy to keep current

News, events, roles and staff are simple to update. Our care plans from $275 + GST a month cover updates if your team is stretched.

How it works

From the first call to launch day

Four stages, with your feedback built in before anything goes live.

  1. Discovery call

A free 30-minute call to scope your pages, features and budget against our website packages.

  2. Design and feedback

We design the site around your brand and content, with rounds of feedback along the way. Essentials includes three rounds.

  3. Build and launch

We build on a content management system you can update yourself, set up the search basics and test the site on phones and desktops.

  4. Hosting and care

Keep the site secure and up to date with Australian hosting from $400 + GST a year and a care plan from $275 + GST a month (minimum 6 months).

Our community work

Charity website design from a team that builds for communities

We've built websites for community organisations including Princes Court, a community-owned aged care provider in Mildura, Southern Cross Care in Broken Hill and ISJO, a joint organisation of NSW councils. Each had more than one audience to serve and a small team to keep the site running.

In not for profit website design, a good site is one your volunteers can update on a Tuesday night. So we keep the structure simple, write in plain English, and leave you with the logins, the training and a site you own.

  • Plain English and Easy Read pages where needed
  • Donations linked to your platform
  • Volunteer roles and events your team can update
  • No tax claims without DGR status

All FAQs

Our website packages start from $5,000 + GST, or 6 monthly payments of $833 + GST. As an estimate, a small charity site with a donation platform linked comes to about $5,500 to $6,000 + GST. Larger organisations fit Standard, from $6,500 + GST. If a free tool will genuinely do for now, we'll tell you before we quote.

Start with what each audience needs: the people you help, volunteers, donors and funders. Write a page for each, gather photos with consent, and choose a donation platform. Then decide who will update the site each month. Those decisions matter more than the design tool you choose.

Keep it to the pages that do the most work: services, get help, volunteer, donate, about and contact. Supply your own text and photos to keep design hours down, and use the donation and email tools you already pay for. A focused five-page site often serves a small charity better than a large one nobody updates.

Hire someone to build it on a system you can edit, then ask for training before handover. You'll update news, events and volunteer roles yourself, and call for help with bigger changes. We build not for profit sites this way, and our care plans cover updates if your team gets busy. Not for profit web development doesn't have to leave you dependent on us.

Not as a separate program. Google Sites is free for anyone with a Google account, and Google offers Google Workspace for Nonprofits to eligible organisations, which includes Sites. It suits a simple site, but has limited design and donation options. Many charities outgrow it once they need forms, donations and events.

Only if your organisation holds Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. If you do, say so clearly on your donate page and receipts. If you don't, we leave tax claims out entirely. We check your status before writing any donation copy. Clear donation wording is part of good not for profit website design.

Many not for profits serve people with disability, older people or people with low literacy, so an inaccessible site shuts out the very people you exist to help. We build to WCAG 2.2 AA, use plain English and add Easy Read pages where your clients need them. Accessible non profit web design also helps search engines read your pages.

Look for a nonprofit web design agency that has built for community organisations, writes plainly and leaves your team able to update the site. Ask about accessibility, donation links and ongoing costs. A good non profit website design company will also tell you when a simpler option will do.
