Digital marketing for accountants, planned around the tax year

Rock Solid Marketing plans and runs digital marketing for accountants and bookkeepers across Australia, from our office in Mildura. Your year has a shape most marketing ignores. From July to October the phones run hot with tax returns. By November, the work you'd rather have is the work nobody had time to chase: advisory clients and small businesses that stay for years.

We plan your marketing around that calendar. Campaigns that build interest run before EOFY and in the quieter months, while tax-time messages stay short because the demand is already there. The goal is fewer one-off returns and more clients who pay for advice.

Plans start at $4,500 + GST a month on the Starter partnership, and it all begins with a free 30-minute discovery call. If a simple SEO plan will do the job, we'll tell you before we quote.

Common problems

What gets in the way, and how we fix it

  1. Tax season fills the diary, then the phone goes quiet from November.

    What we do

We run awareness and content in the quieter months and before EOFY, so enquiries arrive when the team has time to take them.

  2. Most new enquiries want the cheapest tax return, not advice.

    What we do

We market the services you want to grow, such as business advisory, cash flow planning or SMSF work, with pages and examples written for those buyers.

  3. Clients find you through a directory that lists every firm in town.

    What we do

Your own Google Business Profile, reviews and service pages give people a reason to call you directly, and we keep them current through tax time.

  4. Partners worry marketing will sound like the sales pitch the profession frowns on.

    What we do

APES 110 asks accountants not to make exaggerated claims or disparage other firms. We write plain, factual copy that respects that, and you approve it.

What we do for accountants

Online marketing for accountants, month by month

Marketing for accounting firms that follows the financial year, so each month of the budget has a clear job.

A calendar for the tax year

July to October is for being found, November to May for building interest, and June for EOFY planning. Each month of your plan has a job, so the budget follows your year.

Updates clients forward

Content marketing for accountants works when it answers this year's question: what changed at EOFY, or what a new rule means for a sole trader. Short, dated and plain, so clients pass it on.

Found for the right services

SEO for the services you want to grow, plus a Google Business Profile with your hours over tax time. SEO on its own starts at $1,000 + GST a month.

Email between returns

A client newsletter before EOFY and after each BAS quarter keeps you in mind all year. Every list is built with consent and every email can be unsubscribed from, as the Spam Act 2003 requires.

Ads at the right moments

Google Ads for tax return searches in the weeks before 31 October, when people lodging their own return run short of time. We pause them once your diary is full.

Reports by service line

A HubSpot dashboard and a monthly meeting show enquiries by service, so you can see whether advisory work is growing or it's still mostly returns.

Who it’s for

Is it the right fit?

Who it’s for

  • Small and mid-sized practices in regional and suburban Australia
  • Firms moving from compliance work toward advisory
  • Bookkeepers and BAS agents growing a client base
  • Practices that have merged or opened a second office

Not a fit

  • Firms that want ads promising refunds or tax savings
  • A practice that's full and not taking new clients
  • Firms that only need a new website: our website packages start from $5,000 + GST

How it starts

Marketing strategies for accounting firms, built on your client mix

We start with your client list, not with ads. We look at which clients are the most profitable, which services they buy and which ones you'd like more of.

Then we map your year: when the team is flat out, when it has capacity and which deadlines your clients care about. The plan names the services to grow, the months to push them and the channel for each. You keep the roadmap whether we deliver it or your own team does.

  • Client mix and the most profitable services
  • Team capacity across the financial year
  • The deadlines your clients care about
  • Services to grow and the months to push them
  • Channel plan and budget by quarter

Market when you have time to answer the phone.

Partnership plans for accounting practices start from $4,500 + GST a month, covering 28 hours of strategy, content, search and reporting. Standard gives 35 hours for $5,500 + GST a month, and Advanced gives 45 hours for $7,500 + GST a month. Ad spend is extra and goes to the platform. A small practice that only needs search can start with SEO from $1,000 + GST a month.

Advertise the service, not the firm: tax returns before 31 October, business advisory in the quieter months, and EOFY planning in May and June. Google Ads catch people searching now, while Facebook and LinkedIn ads reach business owners before they search. Keep claims factual, because APES 110 asks members not to exaggerate their services, and no ad should promise a refund.

Decide which clients you want more of, then make it easy for them to find and trust you. That means a page for each service, a Google Business Profile with current reviews and a newsletter to existing clients. Add a referral path from the solicitors, banks and brokers you already work with, and measure enquiries by service so you can see what's working.

Start with free channels: a complete Google Business Profile, a review request after each return, and a short email to clients before EOFY. Add one paid channel at a time, and only once the basics are working. That may be all a small practice needs for a while, and it's a fair test before you spend on an agency.

To win business clients, an accounting firm has to show how it thinks, not just what it lodges. Short articles on real situations (shared with permission, with no confidential detail), LinkedIn posts from the partners and talks at the local business chamber all show advisory skill. Digital marketing for accounting firms then follows up with retargeting ads and an email series.

Run awareness and content when the team has capacity, often November to May, and keep tax-time marketing light because demand is already high. The quarterly BAS dates (28 October, 28 February, 28 April and 28 July, per the ATO) are good moments to email business clients. EOFY in June is the big one for planning conversations.

Genuine client reviews are fine, but promised tax savings or refunds can mislead, and both the Australian Consumer Law and APES 110 rule that out. We use reviews only as clients wrote them, and describe registrations (tax agent, CPA, CA) only as you can show them on the public registers. Your firm stays responsible for its own compliance.

No. Partnership plans have no lock-in contracts, and you can adjust the plan as the practice changes. You deal with one dedicated account manager, backed by the whole team, and meet each month by phone or visit. Consultations at our Mildura office by booking, and by phone for practices elsewhere in Australia.
