Google Ads for tradies that run to your diary

Google Ads for tradies across Australia: call-led ads in the suburbs you’ll drive to, in the hours you answer, on a budget that follows your diary.

Part of Marketing for Tradies

Paid search for trades

Search ads that bring calls you can actually take

Rock Solid Marketing manages Google Ads for tradies across Australia from our Mildura office. Google Ads puts your business at the top of Google when someone searches for a job you do. You pay when someone clicks your ad, and a tap on your phone number counts as a click.

For a trade business, the catch is capacity. An ad that rings at 7pm when you’re off the tools wastes money. So does one that brings a job three towns past where you’ll drive. So we set your ads to the hours you answer, the suburbs you travel to and the jobs you want. Then we turn the budget up or down as the diary changes.

Managing your ads sits inside our partnership plans, from $4,500 + GST a month, and your ad spend goes straight to Google. It’s one part of our wider marketing for tradies.

Common problems

What gets in the way, and how we fix it

  1. Our ads ran all weekend while we were at the footy, and the calls went to voicemail.

    What we do

We schedule your ads and call buttons to the hours someone answers, and switch them off when nobody can pick up.

  2. We paid for clicks from people looking up how to fix it themselves, and from apprentices looking for work.

    What we do

We add negative keywords for DIY, how-to, job and wholesale searches, and check the search terms report every month for new leaks.

  3. Once the diary filled up, we kept paying for ads that brought jobs we couldn’t take.

    What we do

Your budget moves with your workload. Tell your account manager you’re booked out and we cut spend or pause campaigns, then restart when you have room.

How we run your ads

Google Ads for trades, set to your diary

Every setting in the account answers a practical question: can you take this job, will you drive there, and is someone free to pick up?

Ads when you can answer

Your ads run on the days and hours that you, or someone in your office, can pick up. Call buttons follow the same schedule, so nobody rings into voicemail on a Sunday night.

Your radius, not the whole state

We target the suburbs and towns you’ll actually drive to. Google is set to show your ads to people located there, not to anyone who’s merely interested in the area.

Negatives for DIY and job seekers

Searches with ‘how to’, ‘DIY’, ‘apprenticeship’ or ‘wholesale’ are blocked as negative keywords. Every month we read the search terms report and block new ones that slip through.

Spend on the jobs worth most

The jobs you make the most from get the biggest share of the budget and a landing page of their own. Small, low-margin jobs run on a tight cap or not at all.

Pages that turn clicks into calls

Each ad lands on a page about that job, with your number at the top and your service area. Your licence number goes where your state requires it, beside a quote form. Weak pages get fixed before we buy clicks.

Cost per enquiry, not just clicks

Each month your account manager shows the calls and quote forms the ads brought in, and what each one cost. You tell us which became paid jobs, so the money goes where it works.

Who it’s for

Is it the right fit?

Who it’s for

  • Tradies with room for more work this month, not next year
  • Trade businesses chasing higher-value jobs, such as renovations
  • Contractors working a set radius around their base
  • Tradies whose past ad spend never turned into jobs

Not a fit

  • Nobody can answer the phone or reply to quotes on the same day
  • Your budget can’t cover a plan plus ad spend yet: start with a Google Business Profile ($500 + GST set-up) or SEO
  • You’re booked solid for months ahead

How it works

How a partnership runs

Every partnership starts with a strategy, then runs month by month with one plan and one point of contact.

  1. Free discovery call

A free 30-minute call about your business, your goals and whether a partnership is the right fit.

  2. Strategy and roadmap

We get to know your goals, customers, challenges and opportunities, then give you a practical marketing roadmap.

  3. Monthly delivery

Your account manager runs the plan each month across the channels it needs, from social media and SEO to email and press releases.

  4. Meet and report

A monthly meeting by phone or visit, with a HubSpot dashboard that shows what the work is achieving.

How it starts

Setting up Google Ads for contractors: what we check first

We start with your diary, not a keyword list. How many more jobs can you take a week, which ones pay best, how far will you drive, and when can someone answer the phone? Those answers set the budget, the schedule and the map.

Then we look at any account you already have: the search terms you paid for, the places it targeted and whether calls were tracked at all. Good Google Ads for tradies starts small and grows with what the report shows. If a Google Business Profile tidy-up would bring the calls without paying for clicks, we’ll tell you before we quote.

  • How many extra jobs you can take each week
  • The jobs worth paying to win
  • The suburbs and towns you’ll travel to
  • The hours someone can answer
  • Search terms your old campaigns paid for

Pay for the jobs you can take, in the places you’ll go.

Mildura CCTV & Data

Rock Solid Marketing created the brand and WordPress website for Mildura CCTV & Data, a CCTV, security and data cabling installer in Irymple VIC, along with customer guides, SEO and Facebook posts.

We approached Rock Solid Marketing to build our online store for our retail division and to look after our existing website. The professionalism of Sean and his team from day one was incredible, they took the time to sit down with us to discuss our exact requirements and they offered suggestions for the build which would improve the overall running of the store.

The finished result of our online store is nothing short of fantastic- it integrates with our point of sale software, it is very easy to navigate, and presents and operates as a professionally made web store should. Since completion and hand over, the back up support we receive from Rock Solid Marketing is remarkable- nothing is too much trouble and we can contact the team at any time with any questions we may have. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Sean, Janine and the team from Rock Solid Marketing for building or revamping a website, creating an online store to suit your business or with online marketing.

There are two costs: our management and the ad spend you pay Google. Management sits in our partnership plans, from $4,500 + GST a month, which also cover SEO, your Google profile and social posts. If you only want ads, our estimate is about $2,000 + GST a month plus 10% of ad spend for one campaign, based on our Lite ad package. You get a fixed quote after the discovery call.

They are when you have room in the diary and a job worth more than the clicks it takes to win. Ads can start bringing calls soon after Google approves them, which SEO can’t do. They also stop the moment you stop paying, so ads suit the jobs you want now while SEO builds underneath.

Yes. Google renamed AdWords to Google Ads in 2018, so older guides and some agency pages still use the old name. The platform, the auction and paying per click work the same way, though the tools inside the account have changed a lot since then.

Set it from the jobs, not a round number: what a new job is worth and how many more you can take each week. We work out a starting daily budget with you on the discovery call, then adjust it from the monthly report. Google bills that spend to you directly, so it never passes through our invoice.

Yes. Google Ads can target suburbs, postcodes, towns or a radius around a point, and exclude areas you don’t want. We also set ads to show to people located in those places, not anyone merely interested in them. A holiday-maker in Melbourne browsing your town won’t trigger your ads.

They can, but expect fewer calls and a longer gap between the click and the contract. People compare several businesses before a renovation, so the landing page needs past projects, a clear process and a quote form. We track quote requests as well as calls, so a slow month of big enquiries isn’t mistaken for a bad one.

Yes. Tell your account manager you’re full and we’ll lower spend or pause campaigns, then restart them when you have room. Pausing keeps the account’s history, so you don’t start from scratch. Partnership plans have no lock-in contracts either, so you’re never stuck paying for marketing you can’t use.

Yes. The account is set up in your business’s name with your payment card, and we work in it as your managers. If you leave, the account, its history and the landing pages we built all stay with you, along with the conversion tracking we set up.
