Radio advertising that gets remembered

Radio advertising for Australian businesses: we plan the schedule, write the script and brief the station, so your 30 seconds earns its spot.

Radio advertising

Radio advertising planned around your listeners, not a station package

Rock Solid Marketing plans and writes radio advertising for Australian businesses, most of them regional, and works with the stations you choose to get it on air. You've probably been offered a package: a few weeks of spots, a price, and a rep who'll write the ad for you. Sometimes that's fine. Often the script tries to say everything, and the spots run when your customers aren't listening.

We start with who you need to reach and when they're in the car, at work or in the shed. Then we write a script with one clear message, check the schedule and line the radio up with your online ads, so people who hear it can find you.

Planning and scripts are billed at $175 + GST an hour, and airtime is paid to the station. Your first step is a free 30-minute discovery call.

What we do

Radio ads that people remember

A radio ad gets one listen, often with the engine running. Everything we do is about making that one listen count.

One message per script

Thirty seconds holds one idea, your name and a way to reach you. Emma Sutcliffe and our writers cut everything else, then read the script aloud against the clock before you see it.

Spots when your customers listen

Breakfast and drive suit commuters; daytime suits tradies and staff with the radio on at work. We check the schedule a station offers against when your customers actually tune in.

Enough spots to be heard

One ad heard once rarely sticks. We plan for frequency, the number of times a listener hears you, and would rather you run fewer weeks properly than many weeks thinly.

Radio linked to your website

People rarely write down a phone number from the radio. They search your name later, so we make sure your Google profile and website say what the ad said.

Proposals read before you book

We read the station's proposal, ask what's included and compare it with other options in your area. You sign the booking with the station and pay for the airtime directly.

Measured, not just aired

An offer code, a short web address or a question at the counter shows whether the ad is working. We set one up before the first spot goes to air.

How it works

From first call to first spot

Four steps, with your approval on the script and the booking.

  1. Free discovery call

A free 30-minute call about your business, your customers and any station proposals you've already received.

  2. Brief and scripts

We agree the one message and the offer, then write script options for you to choose from and approve.

  3. Station and schedule

We check the schedule against your audience, brief the station on recording and line up your website and online ads.

  4. Listen and measure

We check the finished ad before it airs, then track responses and review the campaign with you at the end.

How it starts

Getting your ad to air

The first job is the brief: what you sell, the one thing listeners should remember, and the offer that gives them a reason to act. From there we write two or three script options for you to choose from.

Once you approve a script, the station records it. Stations usually produce the ad themselves, and some include production in the booking, so ask before paying extra. We send the station a clear brief on tone, pronunciation and the call to action, then listen to the finished ad before it goes to air.

  • A one-line brief you sign off
  • Two or three script options
  • Station brief on tone and pronunciation
  • The finished ad checked before it airs
  • A way to measure responses set up

One message, heard often enough to stick.

There are two costs: the airtime the station charges, and the work to plan and write the ad. Our part is billed at $175 + GST an hour, usually 3 to 6 hours for a campaign, so about $525 to $1,050 + GST as an estimate. If the station's own writer can do a decent job for your offer, we'll tell you before we quote.

Radio ads in Australia vary widely in price, so there's no single figure. A metro station charges far more per spot than a regional one, and breakfast and drive cost more than overnight. The number of spots, the weeks and any production fee all change the total. Ask each station for a written rate card, and we'll help you compare them.

The total is airtime, plus any station production fee, plus planning and scripts. A useful way to set it is to decide how many weeks you can keep up at a frequency listeners will notice, then ask the station to price that. Radio advertising cost comes down to repetition, so a short, steady run is often better value than one big burst.

Yes, when the message is simple, the spots run often enough and listeners can easily act on what they hear. Radio suits regional areas where people spend long stretches in the car or ute and keep the local station on at work. It works less well for complex offers that need pictures or detail, which suit online ads better.

Their effectiveness depends far more on the script and frequency than on the station. A clear ad heard many times builds name recall; a busy ad heard twice is forgotten. You can measure it too: use an offer code, a short web address, or simply ask new customers where they heard of you. We set that up before the first spot.

Contact the station's sales team, agree a schedule and budget, then supply or approve a script for them to record. The station books your spots and sends you the schedule. If you want to advertise on radio without the back-and-forth, we can write the script, check the schedule and brief the station for you. Either way, ask for the run schedule afterwards.

Most radio ads run for 30 seconds, with 15 and 60 seconds the other common lengths. A 30-second script is roughly 75 words read at a natural pace. Fifteen seconds suits a reminder of an ad people already know, while 60 seconds suits an interview-style ad or a detailed seasonal offer.

A good radio ad has one message, says your name at least twice and ends with one easy action. It sounds like a person talking, not a list of features. A familiar voice or a recognisable sound helps people place you. A simple test is reading it aloud: if you run out of breath, it's too long.

Deal with the station directly if you have a clear message and time to manage it. A radio advertising agency helps when you want an outside view on the script, the schedule and how radio fits with your other marketing. Unlike radio advertising companies that sell airtime, we're not tied to any station, so we can compare options across your area.

No. A single campaign can be quoted at the hourly rate, with a fixed price before we start. Partnership plans suit businesses running radio alongside social, Google Ads and PR all year, and they have no lock-in contracts. Your airtime booking follows the station's own terms, which we'll explain before you sign.
