Event marketing that fills the gates

Event marketing for festivals, markets, sporting days and business events: from the first poster to a crowd on the day.

Event marketing

For organisers who need a crowd, not just a poster

Rock Solid Marketing does event marketing for festivals, markets, community sport and business events across regional Australia, from the first announcement to the day itself. You've booked the venue, the food trucks and the first-aid tent. Now you need people to turn up, and the date is closer than it looks.

We've done this for events in our own region. We built the identity, press release and social launch for Sunraysia's first Walking Hockey Festival, and ran reels and seasonal campaigns that lifted attendance at the Sunraysia Farmers Market. For the ARB Eldee Easter Festival's 10th anniversary, we designed the event posters and social content.

Event work is billed at $175 + GST an hour, with a fixed quote before we start. Your first step is a free 30-minute discovery call.

What we do

Event promotion from first poster to gates open

An event has a hard deadline, so the work runs to a countdown: announce, build interest, push registrations, then remind people the week before.

An identity people recognise

A first-time event needs a name, a logo and a look before anything else. We designed the Walking Hockey Festival's identity so clubs and sponsors had something easy to share.

Posters and printed pieces

Event marketing materials still matter in country towns: posters in the bakery window, flyers at the club, signs at the gate. We design them to read from across the street.

A social launch with a plan

We plan the posts from announcement to the morning of the event: reels, photo stories, sponsor thank-yous and a countdown, so the feed doesn't go quiet halfway.

Press release and local media

Andrew Mevissen and our PR team write the story and send it to local media. New events, anniversaries and community causes give journalists a reason to cover you.

Registrations made easy

If people must register, buy tickets or enter teams, we keep the sign-up clear and send the emails that follow. That's what we did for the walking hockey teams.

Boosted posts sized to the event

A small boost budget aimed at the right towns often does more than a big one aimed at everyone. You pay Meta directly, and we report what each dollar reached.

How it works

From first call to event day

Four steps, timed to your date.

  1. Free discovery call

A free 30-minute call about your event, the date, the crowd you need and what's already booked.

  2. Countdown plan and quote

We map the weeks before the event, list the pieces you need and give you a fixed quote to approve.

  3. Design and launch

We create the look, posters and social graphics, send the press release and launch the announcement.

  4. Push, remind, wrap up

Reminders and boosted posts build to the day, then a short wrap-up shows what worked for next year.

How it starts

How we plan the run-up to your event

Your event marketing strategy is built backwards from the day. We start with the date, the crowd you need and the people most likely to come, then plan what goes out in each week before it. Most events need a burst at the announcement, steady reminders in the middle and a final push in the last 10 days.

The event marketing strategies that suit a footy club and a wine festival differ, but both start with that countdown. We also check what else is on in your region that weekend, so you're not competing with the footy grand final for the same families.

  • Date, venue and crowd target agreed
  • Who's most likely to come, and from where
  • A week-by-week countdown plan
  • Clashing events in the region checked
  • Design, posts, media and email lined up

Every week before the event has a job.

Event marketing is everything that gets the right people to your event: the name and look, posters, social posts, media coverage, ads and registration emails. It runs to a fixed date, which makes it different from ongoing marketing. Miss the window and there's no next month to catch up, so planning the weeks matters more than any single post.

You market an event by working back from the date. Settle the name, look and key details first, announce early, then post steadily and push hard in the last 10 days. The best way to market an event is to give people one clear reason to come, repeated everywhere, rather than a list of everything that's on.

Promote it in the places your crowd already looks: local Facebook groups, Instagram, community noticeboards, shop windows, the local paper and radio. Ask sponsors, stallholders and clubs to share your posts, because their followers trust them. Event promotion works best when every channel shows the same date, place and poster.

Give them a reason, make it easy, and remind them. The reason might be a first-time event, a famous guest or simply a good day out for the kids. Easy means clear times, parking and prices. Reminders matter because people mean to come and then forget; a post the day before often lifts turnout.

Increase publicity by giving local media a story, not just a date. A first-ever event, an anniversary, a local cause or a person with an unusual tale gets coverage more easily. Send a short press release 3 to 4 weeks out with photos and a contact who can talk. That's how the Walking Hockey Festival earned early media attention.

Keep giving people something new to share. Announce sponsors, stallholders or teams one by one, post behind-the-scenes photos as you set up, and tag every partner so their followers see it. After the event, a photo story and thank-you post set up next year's publicity before you've packed away the marquee.

Create a Facebook Event and add your sponsors or partner clubs as co-hosts, so it appears on their pages too. Post updates inside the event, because people who clicked Interested see them. A small boosted post aimed at nearby towns and the right age groups usually reaches more of the right people than sharing alone.

Use short reels and Stories more than single photos, and add Instagram's countdown sticker so followers get a reminder when it ends. Collab posts with sponsors or performers put your event in front of their followers too. Keep the date and place in every caption, because people screenshot posts and come back later.

Yes. It means one person keeps the countdown on track, chases approvals and makes sure posters, posts, emails and media all land on time. Your account manager does that alongside the design and PR team, as part of our event marketing services. For organisations with several events a year, a partnership plan can cover them all.
