SEO for nonprofits, built around three kinds of searcher

Rock Solid Marketing provides SEO for nonprofits across Australia: search work that helps charities and community organisations get found. It's part of our not for profit marketing.

Three kinds of people search for you. Someone who needs help types a service and a town. A would-be volunteer searches for roles near them. A donor looks for a cause they care about. Most nonprofit sites serve none of them well, because the website was built around the organisation chart rather than the searcher.

SEO plans start from $1,000 + GST a month with no lock-in contracts. The first step is a free 30-minute discovery call.

Common problems

What gets in the way, and how we fix it

  1. People who need our services can't find us on Google.

    What we do

We build a page for each service and location, written in the words people search, and set up a Google Business Profile for each site that people visit.

  2. Our Google Ad Grant sends clicks to pages that don't convert.

    What we do

We improve the pages your grant ads point to, so free clicks turn into enquiries, sign-ups and donations.

What we do

Nonprofit SEO for services, volunteers and donors

Each kind of searcher gets pages that answer their question and a clear next step.

Service pages that get found

A page per service and location, explaining who it's for, how to access it and what it costs, written in plain English and Easy Read where needed.

A Google profile for every site

Each office, centre or shop that people visit gets its own Google Business Profile with accurate hours, services and photos.

Volunteer pages that rank

Pages for each volunteer role, with what's involved and how to apply, so people searching for volunteering near them find you.

Content about your cause

Articles and stories, shared with consent, that answer questions about the issues you work on and build authority on your cause.

Works with your Ad Grant

SEO and Google Ad Grants share the same goal. We align the pages, keywords and tracking so both bring more people to you.

Reports for your board

A monthly Semrush report and review call, summarised for board papers: rankings, visits, enquiries, sign-ups and donations from search.

How it works

How we run your SEO

SEO is an ongoing process, so the work runs month by month, with a report and a call every time.

  1. Discovery call

A free 30-minute call about your website, your market and the searches your customers make.

  2. Research and set-up

Keyword research, analytics set-up and a technical check of your site, from load speed to robots.txt and sitemaps.

  3. On-page and off-page work

Title tags, meta tags, content editing, internal links and offsite link building, all focused on ranking regionally.

  4. Monthly report and review

A custom report and a personalised review call every month on your rankings, your traffic and what comes next.

Our community work

Not for profit SEO with your mission in mind

We've run SEO as part of wider work for community organisations. They include Princes Court, a community-owned aged care provider in Mildura, Sunraysia Residential Services and GreenConnect's dementia respite programs. Each needed search pages that served several audiences at once.

We're an SEO agency not for profit boards can hold to account. Good nonprofit SEO is honest. We don't promise rankings, we describe your services accurately, and we only mention tax deductibility if your organisation holds Deductible Gift Recipient status. Stories about the people you support are used with consent.

  • Volunteer and donor pages

All FAQs

Our SEO plans start from $1,000 + GST a month with no lock-in contracts. An organisation with a few services in one town may fit that, while one with many services or locations needs more hours. Google Business Profile set-up is $500 + GST per site without one. If your site only needs a one-off tidy-up, we'll tell you before we quote.

SEO matters because people search when they need help, want to volunteer or are ready to give. If your pages don't appear, they find another organisation or none at all. Unlike paid ads, good search rankings keep working without a media budget, which suits organisations watching every dollar.

Choose one that understands your audiences, writes plainly and reports in a way your board can use. Ask how it handles service pages, volunteers and donors, and whether it can align SEO with a Google Ad Grant. Avoid any nonprofit SEO company that promises top rankings.

They work together. Ad Grants buys visibility on search results with Google-funded ads, while SEO earns visibility in the free results. Both need strong pages to convert visitors. Improving the pages your grant ads point to helps your grant account meet Google's standards too. Shared keyword research means both channels target the searches that matter most.

Yes, each service and location should have its own page. People search for a specific service in a specific place, and one general page can't rank for all of them. Each page should explain who the service is for, how to access it and how to get in touch.

Yes. People search for volunteering in their area and for causes they care about. Pages for each volunteer role, with clear requirements and an easy application, help you appear for those searches. Volunteer pages also give your social posts somewhere useful to send people. Much of the basic SEO nonprofit staff can do themselves, once the pages exist.

Expect early movement within a few months for local service searches, and steadier results after six months or so. Cause-related searches are often more competitive and take longer. Your monthly report shows progress for services, volunteers and donations separately, so your board can see which audience is growing and where the next month's hours should go.

Our SEO plans are priced the same for every client, from $1,000 + GST a month. What we can do is focus the hours on the searches that matter most to your mission, and tell you honestly if a cheaper option will do. Our plans have no lock-in contracts.
