Digital PR that earns its coverage

Digital PR for Australian businesses with real news to tell: stories pitched to online publications that earn coverage, mentions and links.

Online coverage

Digital PR built on stories journalists want to run

Rock Solid Marketing is a digital PR agency in Australia for businesses with real news to tell. We find the story, write it up and pitch it to online news sites, trade publications and industry blogs. When a story runs, you get the coverage, the mention of your name and, often, a link back to your website.

You might have a new store opening, an award win or a community event coming up, and nobody outside your customers knows. Or an SEO agency has offered to buy links for you, and something about it feels off. This is the honest version: a real story, published because an editor thought it was worth running.

Every campaign starts with one press release, from $1,000 + GST, and a free 30-minute discovery call.

How digital PR works

A digital PR strategy built around your news

Each part of the work answers one question: what's the story, who will publish it, and what did it do for your business?

Finding the story

We start with what's already happening in your business: openings, hires, awards, milestones, local events. Andrew spent years as a newspaper reporter, so he knows which of those an editor will actually run.

Pitches to the right outlets

Most digital PR in Australia chases the same few national sites. Trade publications, regional mastheads and industry blogs each want their own angle, so we write a pitch for each one.

Links you earn

When a publication links to your website from its own story, Google sees a genuine reference. We never buy links or pay for placements, which Google's spam policies class as link spam.

Monitoring with Meltwater

As a Meltwater partner, we track where your story appears, online and in print. You see every mention, including the ones that didn't link back, and how far each one travelled.

Coverage that keeps working

A published story is worth more when people see it. We help you share coverage on your website, Google Business Profile and social media, so each article keeps building trust.

Local angle, then industry

A story about a Mildura or Renmark business can run in the regional paper, on its website and in trade press in the same week. We pitch the local angle first, then the industry one.

One plan, not random wins

A digital PR consultancy should plan the year, not chase one headline. We map your news calendar, so each story builds on the last and your name keeps appearing.

How it works

How a PR campaign runs

From the first conversation to a coverage report you can share with your team.

  1. Discovery call

A free 30-minute call about your business, what's coming up and who you want to reach, online and in your region.

  2. Story and angles

We dig out the news, test it against what editors are publishing, and agree the angle and target outlets with you.

  3. Write and pitch

We write the media release and a pitch for each outlet, you approve them, and we send them to the right journalists.

  4. Track and report

Meltwater tracks every mention. You get a report showing where the story ran, the links it earned and what's next.

Real news, real links

What a digital PR firm should and shouldn't do

Some agencies sell PR as link building with a press release attached. They push a release to hundreds of low-quality sites and count the links. Those links rarely help, and paid ones can count against you.

We work the other way round. The story comes first, it goes to publications your customers actually read, and any link is a by-product of real coverage. For Alivio Tourist Park, we wrote the park's first award submission and then helped it promote its wins, so the recognition reached people planning a holiday. For TRP Parts in Renmark, the release announcing the new store ran alongside Google Business Profile and local SEO work, so readers could find the store.

  • No paid links or sponsored placements
  • Stories pitched to publications your customers read
  • Every mention reported, linked or not
  • You approve every word before it goes out

Coverage first. Links follow good stories.

The Importance of Backlinks in SEO

The term backlink is thrown around an awful lot in the realm of SEO. A backlink is a link placed on another website that links back to your site (links back, backlink… get it?). Backlinks are extremely important when it comes to SEO because they’re a key indicator of a site’s authority. The wider you can spread

It starts with a press release from $1,000 + GST, which covers the consultation, research, writing and distribution. A campaign of several stories is quoted after the discovery call. Ongoing PR can also sit inside a marketing partnership, from $4,500 + GST a month, alongside your SEO and social media.

It's public relations aimed at online publications: news sites, trade press, blogs and podcasts. You share genuine news, journalists publish it, and your business gets coverage, mentions and links. Unlike advertising, you don't pay for the space. The story has to be good enough for an editor to run.

Online PR is another name for digital PR: getting your business mentioned on websites and online news, not only in print or on air. In practice the two overlap. A story in a regional newspaper usually appears on its website too, so one release can earn both.

Start with real news, not a sales message. Write a short media release with the facts, a quote and a photo, then pitch it personally to journalists who cover your topic. Follow up once, track where it runs, and share the coverage. Doing it well takes time and media contacts most businesses don't have.

A PR agency that specialises in online coverage finds stories in your business and places them with publications on your behalf. Good ones employ people who know how newsrooms work. Our PR team is Andrew Mevissen, a former newspaper reporter, and Emma Sutcliffe, a journalist with more than 20 years in communications.

There's no single best agency; the right one depends on your industry, budget and audience. Look for real coverage they've earned for clients like you, journalists on the team, honest reporting and no promise of a set number of links. Be wary of anyone who sells links by the hundred.

Hire one that can explain your technology in plain English, because tech journalists get flooded with jargon-heavy pitches. Ask for examples of complex stories made simple, check who writes the releases, and ask how they report results. Emma specialises in breaking complex ideas into bite-sized concepts, which suits tech and B2B stories.

No. Editors decide what they publish, so any agency promising coverage or a set number of links is either paying for placements or overpromising. What we can promise is a story worth running, pitched to the right people, and an honest report on what came back. If a Google Business Profile tidy-up will do more for you first, we'll tell you before we quote.
