Performing arts marketing that fills seats

Performing arts marketing for theatres, galleries and arts organisations across Australia that want fuller houses, more members and stronger funding cases.

Partnership plans from $4,500 + GST a month

Arts organisations

Theatre marketing, gallery marketing and everything between

Rock Solid Marketing provides performing arts marketing from our office in Mildura for arts organisations across Australia. Our cultural work includes clearer messaging, a visual identity and pitch support for Mallee's Living Histories, a community storytelling initiative preparing for major funding applications.

Arts marketing runs on short windows and long relationships. A season launch has weeks to sell seats; an exhibition has a few months; members and donors stay for years if you look after them. Most arts teams are small, stretched and doing marketing between everything else.

Plans start from $4,500 + GST a month, and many organisations begin with a single season campaign instead. A free 30-minute discovery call comes first, and we'll suggest the smallest plan that does the job.

Common problems

What gets in the way, and how we fix it

  1. Tickets sell in the last week, if at all.

    What we do

We plan each season with early-bird pushes, email to past attendees and targeted ads that build sales from launch day.

  2. Your audience is ageing and you're not reaching new people.

    What we do

Social content, partnerships and targeted ads reach younger and newer audiences without losing your loyal ones.

  3. Members and donors drift away between seasons.

    What we do

Email and member communications keep people involved all year, with previews, behind-the-scenes stories and renewal reminders.

  4. Funding applications lack evidence of reach.

    What we do

Reporting on audiences, reach and engagement you can use in grant applications, plus clear messaging about your impact.

What we do for arts organisations

Marketing performing arts, exhibitions and seasons

Every part of the plan builds a bigger, broader audience, sells the current season and keeps members and supporters close between shows.

Season and show campaigns

Launch plans for each season, show or exhibition, with early-bird timing, email, social and ads mapped week by week to the opening night.

Members, subscribers and donors

Email programs for members and past attendees who opted in: previews, behind-the-scenes content, renewal reminders and donor stories that keep people involved.

Content that shows the work

Rehearsal clips, artist interviews, installation shots and reels that give people a reason to come, without giving the whole show away.

Found by locals and visitors

Event listings, a complete Google Business Profile, what's-on pages and search ads aimed at locals and tourists planning a night out.

Funding and impact stories

Clear messaging and evidence of reach for grant applications and sponsors, as in the pitch support we provided for Mallee's Living Histories.

Sales and audience reporting

Your monthly report tracks ticket sales, new and returning attendees, memberships and campaign costs, so you know what filled the seats.

Who it’s for

Is it the right fit?

Who it’s for

  • Theatres and performing arts companies
  • Galleries and art spaces
  • Festivals, choirs and music organisations
  • Community arts and cultural projects

Not a fit

  • Commercial art dealers selling online only
  • Anyone wanting promised ticket sales
  • Organisations without a season or program to promote

How it starts

Theatre marketing strategies start with your audience data

We start with your ticketing and membership data: who comes, how often, how far they travel, when they buy and what they come back for. Then we look at the season ahead and the audiences you most want to grow.

From that you get a season plan with timing, channels and budgets for each show or exhibition. You approve every message, image and offer before it's published.

  • Who buys tickets and when
  • First-timers and returning attendees
  • Members, subscribers and donors
  • The season or exhibition program
  • Funding and sponsor goals

Sell the season, keep the audience.

All FAQs

It's the work of connecting art with audiences: selling tickets, building memberships, attracting donors and telling the story of an organisation's work. Arts marketing balances short campaigns for each show or exhibition with long relationships that keep people coming back for years. Funders are an audience too.

Start with the people who already come, then reach the ones who might. Email past attendees early, share content that shows the work, partner with local businesses and venues, and run targeted ads to new audiences closer to opening. Track sales week by week and adjust.

Begin six to eight weeks out with an announcement to members and past attendees, then build with rehearsal content, cast stories and media. Push early-bird and group offers, then run ads in the final fortnight. For musical theatre shows, short song clips do a lot of the selling.

Marketing an art gallery means treating each exhibition as a campaign and the gallery as a destination. Use opening events, artist talks and installation content to create reasons to visit. Keep your Google profile and what's-on listings current, and build an email list of people who opted in. Marketing for art galleries also includes tourism partners.

They start early and know their audience. Strong campaigns give people a reason to book now, such as early-bird pricing or limited seats. They use content that captures the feel of the show and speak to new and loyal audiences differently. They also measure sales weekly and adjust.

Often both. In-house teams know the work and the audience; an agency adds planning, creative and ad management when the team is stretched. Many arts organisations bring us in for a season launch or a membership drive, then run day-to-day posting themselves. We hand over templates when we do.

Yes. Funders want evidence of reach and impact, and good marketing produces it: audience numbers, new attendees, engagement and stories from your community. We can also sharpen your messaging and pitch materials, as we did for Mallee's Living Histories ahead of its funding applications. Plan reporting before the season starts.

No. There's no lock-in, so hours can rise for a season launch and drop between programs. Monthly meetings with your account manager can be by phone, by video or at our Mildura office. Every message and image is approved by your team before it goes out.
