SEO migration for your next website move

SEO migration for Australian businesses changing website, domain, platform or name: every old page mapped, redirected and checked after launch.

Moving your website

Website migration SEO, planned before the move

Rock Solid Marketing handles SEO migration for Australian businesses moving to a new website, domain or platform, from our office in Mildura. We record what your old site ranks for, redirect every address that changes and check Google can crawl the new one.

The risk sits in the addresses. Your old pages have built up links, rankings and bookmarks over years. If the new site gives them different URLs and nobody tells Google where they went, visitors hit a 404 and the rankings fade with them. It doesn't matter who builds the new site: we can be the SEO team beside your developer.

Migration work runs inside an SEO plan from $1,000 + GST a month with no lock-in, so you can keep it for the months around the move. It starts with a free 30-minute discovery call.

What the migration covers

An SEO migration plan you can check

Each part ends in something you can see for yourself: a spreadsheet, a redirect list or a report.

Benchmark before anything moves

We crawl the old site and export its pages, rankings, organic traffic and the links pointing in. That snapshot tells us after launch whether anything has slipped, and where.

A one-to-one redirect map

Every old URL is matched to its closest new page with a 301 redirect. Google's guidance warns that sending old pages to an unrelated page, such as the home page, can be treated as a soft 404.

Titles and copy carried across

Pages that rank keep their main words, title tags and headings unless there's a reason to change them. Rewrite everything at once and you can't tell which change cost you.

Launch-day checks

The staging site's noindex setting comes off, robots.txt is checked, the new XML sitemap goes into Search Console and redirects are tested in bulk. These four are where launches most often trip.

Domain and name changes

A new domain adds Search Console's Change of Address tool, updated Google Business Profile details and fresh links from your social profiles and directory listings.

Watching after launch

In the weeks after launch we compare Search Console against the benchmark. Crawl errors, dropped pages and missed redirects get fixed while they're still small.

How it works

How your SEO site migration runs

Most of the work happens before launch day, which is why the first call should come early.

  1. Discovery call

A free 30-minute call about the move you're planning: new design, domain, platform or host, and who is building it.

  2. Benchmark and map

We record what the old site ranks for and match every old URL to its new page in a redirect map.

  3. Launch checks

On launch day we test redirects, remove staging blocks, submit the new sitemap and confirm Google can crawl the site.

  4. Watch and fix

We compare Search Console with the benchmark each week after launch and fix errors before they cost you.

Whoever builds it

Site migration SEO when another agency builds the site

Plenty of businesses buy a new site from a designer who doesn't do SEO. That's fine. We work beside your developer: you get the benchmark and redirect map to hand over, and we check the staging site before it goes live.

If we're building the new site ourselves, the same steps happen inside the project. If your move is only a hosting change with the same domain and URLs, the risk is small, and we'll tell you before we quote.

  • A redirect map your developer can load
  • The staging site checked before launch
  • Search Console access kept in your name
  • Post-launch fixes listed by impact

Plan it, map it, launch it, then watch it.

We approached Rock Solid Marketing to build our online store for our retail division and to look after our existing website. The professionalism of Sean and his team from day one was incredible, they took the time to sit down with us to discuss our exact requirements and they offered suggestions for the build which would improve the overall running of the store.

The finished result of our online store is nothing short of fantastic- it integrates with our point of sale software, it is very easy to navigate, and presents and operates as a professionally made web store should. Since completion and hand over, the back up support we receive from Rock Solid Marketing is remarkable- nothing is too much trouble and we can contact the team at any time with any questions we may have. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Sean, Janine and the team from Rock Solid Marketing for building or revamping a website, creating an online store to suit your business or with online marketing.

It runs inside our SEO plans, from $1,000 + GST a month with no lock-in contracts. That covers the benchmark, redirect map, launch checks and monitoring afterwards. Large sites that need hundreds of redirects loaded into a new platform may need extra development, quoted first at $175 + GST an hour. A small move may only need a month or two.

SEO migration is the work that protects your search traffic when a website changes in a big way. That includes new URLs, a new domain, a new platform or two sites merged into one. It means recording what ranks now, redirecting every old address and checking Google can crawl the new site. SEO migrations go wrong when nobody owns that list.

A site migration is any change to how search engines reach your site: its domain, URLs, platform, structure or hosting. Some are small, like faster hosting with nothing else changed. Others, like a new domain and a redesign at once, touch every page. The bigger the change, the more an SEO website migration needs a plan.

Keep the pages that rank and redirect any URL that changes. Before launch, export every old URL with its traffic, then match each one to its closest new page with a 301 redirect. Carry across the title tags and main copy of your best pages. After launch, submit the new sitemap and watch Search Console for errors.

Change the design, not the addresses, wherever you can. If URLs must change, map each old one to its new home before launch. Keep headings and copy on your top pages close to the original, and test the staging site for noindex tags and broken links. A written SEO migration strategy keeps the designer and the SEO side working from one list.

Yes, usually for a while. New URLs, templates, copy and internal links all change the signals Google reads, so some movement in rankings is normal in the first weeks. How big the dip is depends on how much changed and how well the redirects were handled. Nobody can promise rankings will hold, but the avoidable losses can be removed.

Not on its own, if the domain and URLs stay the same. Google may crawl more slowly for a short time while it adjusts to the new server. Problems come from what changes alongside the move: a slower server, a missing SSL certificate or files left behind. After the switch, check the site loads over HTTPS and test your key pages.

Keep the old site live until the new one passes its checks, and launch in a quiet week, not just before your busy season. Benchmark rankings first, so you can see exactly what moved. In the weeks after launch, check Search Console for 404 errors and pages dropped from the index, and fix them quickly.

Treat it as a domain move if your web address changes too. Redirect every old URL to its match on the new domain, use Search Console's Change of Address tool and update your Google Business Profile to the new name. Then update directories, social profiles and suppliers' links. Keep the old domain registered so the redirects keep working.
