SMS marketing for Australian businesses

SMS marketing for Australian businesses: texts your customers agreed to receive, timed to your season and written to get one clear reply.

SMS marketing

SMS marketing your customers agreed to receive

Rock Solid Marketing runs SMS marketing for Australian businesses as part of our marketing partnership plans. We plan, write and send the texts your customers asked for: reminders, confirmations, seasonal offers and alerts. You may have mobile numbers in your booking system and no plan for them. Or a list nobody is sure you’re allowed to text.

We start with consent, because the Spam Act 2003 puts the burden of proof on you. Then we split the list by what people want and write short messages with one action each. They go out from the platform you use, or one we set up.

Partnership plans start from $4,500 + GST a month for 28 hours across all your channels. You pay SMS send costs to the platform directly, and every plan starts with a free 30-minute discovery call.

What we do

Text campaigns that earn their place on the phone

A text interrupts someone’s day, so every message needs a reason to arrive that week and a clear way to opt out.

Messages timed to your year

We plan texts around your calendar: the start of a season, a school holiday rush, a stocktake sale or a market day. Each message has a reason to arrive that week, not just a gap in the schedule to fill.

Reminders and confirmations

Appointment reminders, booking confirmations and pick-up notices are often the texts customers value most. We set them up in the platform you use, so they go out on their own once the rules are in place.

Lists split by what people want

Not everyone on your list needs every text. We split it by location, last purchase or interest, so a customer two towns away isn’t sent an offer that only runs at one store.

Consent you can prove

Under the Spam Act 2003, it’s up to you to prove each person agreed. We set up sign-up forms, website tick boxes and counter sign-ups that record who agreed, when and how.

Short copy with one action

Good SMS message marketing says one thing and asks for one action: reply, book, click or come in. Our writers keep each text short, plain and clearly from your business.

Sends you can measure

Campaign links are tracked, and replies and opt-outs are counted. Your HubSpot dashboard and monthly meeting show which texts brought bookings and which ones led to opt-outs.

How it works

How we run your SMS campaigns

Four steps from the first call to texts that go to the right people, with you approving every send.

  1. Free discovery call

A 30-minute call about your customers and your list, and whether SMS suits your business or email and your booking system would do the job.

  2. List and consent check

We review where your numbers came from, how consent was recorded and which platform holds them, then fix the gaps before anything is sent.

  3. Plan and write

Each month you approve the texts, the segments they go to and the send times, alongside the rest of your partnership plan.

  4. Send and report

Messages go out from the platform, opt-outs are actioned, and your HubSpot dashboard and monthly meeting show what each send achieved.

Consent first

SMS marketing in Australia starts with consent

Before the first campaign, we look at where your mobile numbers came from. Numbers people gave you on a sign-up form or at the counter, with a clear tick or a spoken yes, are usually fine. A bought list or a spreadsheet nobody can explain usually isn’t. ACMA’s guidance also says inferred consent doesn’t cover someone who has simply bought from you once.

Then we check the sender details and the opt-out. ACMA notes that a business name used as the sender generally can’t receive replies. So a “Reply STOP” message needs a number that can take replies, or another free way out such as a link.

  • Where every number on your list came from
  • Consent recorded: who, when and how
  • Your business name and contact details in every text
  • A free opt-out that keeps working for 30 days
  • Unsubscribes actioned within 5 working days

No consent, no text.

What The Heck Is Content Marketing, Anyway?

Content marketing is primarily concerned with creating and distributing content that is closely related to what your company sells in order to achieve marketing goals. But what exactly is ‘content,’ you ask? Whatever is published (i.e. uploaded to the internet) is considered content, regardless of its format. It runs inside our partnership plans, from $4,500 + GST a month for 28 hours across all your channels. The SMS platform charges for each message, and you pay those send costs to the platform directly. If you only need appointment reminders, your booking system may already send them, and we’ll tell you before we quote.

SMS marketing is sending promotional or service text messages to customers who agreed to receive them. Typical messages are offers, reminders, booking confirmations, back-in-stock alerts and event updates. Because a text lands on the phone in someone’s pocket, it suits short, time-sensitive news rather than long stories.

Text message marketing is another name for SMS marketing: marketing sent by text to a mobile number. A text message marketing service plans who gets each message, writes it, schedules it and handles replies and opt-outs. Some platforms also send MMS, which adds an image to the text.

SMS reaches people on the phone they carry everywhere, so it suits news that can’t wait. Texts are short, so customers read them in seconds. They work for reminders that help customers turn up, offers that fill a quiet day and alerts people asked for. The trade-off: every text costs money and patience, so send fewer, better messages.

The best platform is usually the one that connects to where your customer list already lives: your booking system, point-of-sale, CRM or online store. Check that it records consent, handles opt-outs on its own and can receive replies. We’ll work with the platform you use, or help you choose and set one up.

You need each person’s consent, every text must identify your business with contact details, and it must offer a free, working way to unsubscribe. That’s the Spam Act 2003. ACMA says unsubscribe requests must be honoured within 5 working days. Keep a record of who agreed, when and how, because proving consent is up to you.

Only if you can prove every person on it gave consent. ACMA’s guidance says you stay responsible for consent on any list you buy or use. Inferred consent from an ongoing relationship can count, but not for someone who simply bought from you once. We check your list before anything is sent.

Bulk SMS is one part of it: one message sent to a whole list at once. Many bulk SMS marketing services sell cheap sends to any list you upload, and the consent risk stays with you. Our bulk SMS marketing solutions start with the list instead: who agreed, which segment they’re in and what each group needs to hear.
