The objective

What Gunning For You needed

Gunning For You, a family-owned firearms store in Encounter Bay run by Lyndon Preston since 2013, needed a brand and a website that set out everything the shop carries. Shooters and hunters had to be able to find the right category, from rifles to reloading powder, and then call or email the shop.

The shop

Gunning For You (G4U) is a family-owned firearms store at 41 Maude Street, Encounter Bay, near Victor Harbor on South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula. Lyndon Preston opened it in 2013. The shop sells new and second-hand rifles, shotguns and handguns, along with ammunition, optics, gun safes, reloading supplies and accessories, and it helps customers with gun repairs and firearm permits. It holds an SA firearms dealer's licence, and its own site notes that it works with Presto's Hunting and Shooting in Mildura as an associate store.

What we built

We started with the brand: the G4U mark, a bold slanted monogram that sits in white on the dark header of every page.

Then the website, built on WordPress and launched in 2019. The main menu lists the shop's eight sections: firearms, ammunition, optics, accessories, reloading, gun repairs, competition handgun accessories and firearm permits. Each section opens into its own category pages (centrefire, rimfire, shotgun, pistol, air rifles and second-hand under firearms; equipment, dies, powder, projectiles, cases and primers under reloading), about 35 in all, with the logos of the makes the shop stocks. The phone number, the dealer licence and the shop address appear on every page, and a quick contact form, a map and a newsletter sign-up for new products and promotions complete it.

After launch

Once the site was live, we also looked after the shop's SEO and social media for a period.

Why it worked

What made the difference

The site is organised the way the shop sells: eight sections in the main menu, each opening into its own category pages, so a buyer looking for reloading dies or a gun safe gets there in two clicks. The dealer licence number and categories sit in the footer of every page, which matters in a licensed trade. The phone number sits at the top of every page, so a buyer can call Lyndon from any product page.
