Web Design

Ecommerce website design for Australian online stores

Ecommerce website design for Australian businesses that want an online store customers can browse, trust and pay on, built so you can run it yourself.

Online stores

Ecommerce website design that gets people to the checkout

Rock Solid Marketing provides ecommerce website design and development for Australian retailers, wineries and trade suppliers, run from our office in Mildura. You get an online store with product pages, a shopping cart and a payment gateway, on a platform you can manage yourself.

Most stores don’t fail on looks. They fail at the small things: a size chart that’s hard to find, a checkout that asks for too much, shipping costs that appear at the last step. We test those parts hardest, with test orders, before your first customer arrives.

Our E-commerce package starts from $6,000 + GST, or 6 monthly payments of $1,000 + GST. If a simple catalogue with an enquiry button will sell your range better than a full checkout, we’ll tell you before we quote.

What we build

What an ecommerce website developer should sort out for you

Design brings people in. The catalogue, the checkout and the back end decide whether they buy, and whether you keep up with orders.

A checkout that finishes the sale

Cart, payment gateway, shipping and tax settings are set up together. We check them with test orders, so customers see the full price before the last step.

Catalogues people can search

For Aline Trading we built a product catalogue customers can filter by category, price and specification. Large ranges need that kind of structure more than they need decoration.

Products you can manage

Add products, change prices and run a sale without calling a developer. We load your starting range and train your team on products, orders and content.

The story that sells the product

Capogreco Winery Estate’s site leads with six generations of family winemaking, with the wine shop right there when people are ready to buy. People buy from a business they understand.

Product pages Google can read

Clear product names, category pages and descriptions written for the searches your buyers make. Ecommerce web design that ignores search ends up paying for every visitor through ads.

Shopping on a phone

Most browsing happens on phones, so filters, images, the cart and the payment step are tested on small screens first, then on tablets and desktops.

How it works

How we build your online store

Five steps, with the products and the checkout checked by you before anything goes live.

  1. Discovery call

A free 30-minute call about your range, your customers, how you ship and how you want to be paid, then a written scope and price.

  2. Platform and structure

We recommend Shopify or WooCommerce and map your categories, filters and product page layout before any design starts.

  3. Design and feedback

We design the home, category, product and cart pages around your brand, and you give feedback in rounds.

  4. Build and test orders

Saimul builds the store, loads your starting range and runs test orders through the payment gateway and shipping rules.

  5. Launch and training

We launch, train your team on products and orders, and stay on hand for follow-up support while the first real orders come in.

Choosing a platform

Shopify or WooCommerce: picking the platform for your store

Shopify is a hosted platform with a monthly subscription: you don’t manage hosting or updates, and its app store covers most add-ons. WooCommerce is a free plug-in for WordPress: you pay for hosting and any paid extensions, but you control everything and can grow a content-heavy site around the store.

We recommend one after the discovery call, based on your range, how you take payments and who will run the store day to day. Neither suits every business. Some ecommerce website developers only build on one, so their advice follows their skills. Our ecommerce website development services cover both.

  • How many products and variations you sell
  • How you take payments and ship orders
  • Who updates products and prices each week
  • Systems the store must talk to
  • Ongoing platform costs, compared up front

The right platform is the one your team will actually use.

Our work

Online stores and catalogues we’ve built

We approached Rock Solid Marketing to build our online store for our retail division and to look after our existing website. The professionalism of Sean and his team from day one was incredible, they took the time to sit down with us to discuss our exact requirements and they offered suggestions for the build which would improve the overall running of the store.

The finished result of our online store is nothing short of fantastic- it integrates with our point of sale software, it is very easy to navigate, and presents and operates as a professionally made web store should. Since completion and hand over, the back up support we receive from Rock Solid Marketing is remarkable- nothing is too much trouble and we can contact the team at any time with any questions we may have. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Sean, Janine and the team from Rock Solid Marketing for building or revamping a website, creating an online store to suit your business or with online marketing.

Our E-commerce package starts from $6,000 + GST, or 6 monthly payments of $1,000 + GST. That covers the ecommerce website design, online store, shopping cart and payment gateway. Large ranges, custom filters and links to stock or accounting systems add to it. You get a fixed quote after the discovery call.

Longer than a brochure site, mainly because of the products. Most small business websites take 4 to 8 weeks; a store also needs every product’s photos, descriptions, prices and shipping rules ready. We set the timeline in your scope once we know the size of your range.

It is when customers already want to buy without talking to you first. If most sales need a quote or a conversation, a catalogue with an enquiry button often works better. Good web design for an ecommerce website starts with that question. Aline Trading’s product catalogue site is a good example of that approach.

For most Australian small and medium stores, Shopify or WordPress with WooCommerce. Shopify suits owners who want hosting and updates handled for a monthly fee. WooCommerce suits businesses that want full control and a content-rich site around the store. For ecommerce website development in Australia, we also compare local payment and shipping options.

In 5 steps: scope the range and payments, choose the platform, design the key pages, build and load products, then test orders before launch. In ecommerce website design, skipping the test orders is the most common mistake we see. A broken shipping rule or payment setting costs sales on day one.

Ask each one to show a live store they built and explain what went wrong on it. Then compare written scopes: platform, products loaded, payment set-up, training and support after launch. A good ecommerce website development company will also tell you the ongoing platform and app costs, not just its own fee.

Yes. Exposed Signage and Apparel came to us after technical problems stalled their Shopify build. We reviewed it and recommended rebuilding the store from scratch, which was the faster and cheaper path to market. We review what you have first, and suggest a rebuild only when fixing would cost more.

You run the day-to-day orders and products, and we can handle the rest. Our Premium care plan is $549 + GST a month, with a 6-month minimum. It covers store and payment settings, updates, an SEO health check and a one-hour monthly call. It suits stores that can’t afford a broken checkout.
