Corporate communications with one clear message

Corporate communications for Australian organisations with many audiences: one clear story for your board, staff, members, partners and the public.

Corporate comms

Corporate communications that keep every audience on the same page

Rock Solid Marketing is a corporate communications agency for organisations across Australia: we work out what you need to say, to whom and in what order, then write it for your board, staff, members, partners, funders and the media. Everyone hears the same story, in words that suit them.

You might be merging, restructuring or changing owners, and staff are hearing rumours before the official word. Or your annual report, newsletter and website each describe the organisation differently. Good corporate communication fixes the gaps before they turn into problems.

One-off work is charged at $175 + GST an hour, and it starts with a free 30-minute discovery call.

What we do

A corporate communications strategy built around your audiences

Your board, your staff and your members each need something slightly different from you, so your plan starts with them, not with a template.

One set of key messages

We agree three or four key messages with your leadership, then write every document from them. Your CEO, receptionist and website all describe the organisation the same way.

The right order

Staff should hear news before the newspaper does, and the board before staff. We plan who is told what and when, so nobody important learns it second-hand.

Writing for each audience

A board paper, a staff email, a member newsletter and a media release carry the same facts in different words. We write each one for the people reading it.

Stakeholder messaging

Councils, funders, regulators and partners need to see what you do and why it matters. Emma has spent more than 20 years writing for government, business and private clients.

Reports and newsletters

Annual report copy, member newsletters and impact summaries that read clearly and match your key messages. Complex ideas get broken into short, plain sections.

Media as one audience

Corporate news often reaches the press. We prepare the release, the Q&A and the spokesperson notes, and as a Meltwater partner we track what gets reported.

How it works

How a communications project runs

From the first conversation to messages your whole organisation can use.

  1. Discovery call

A free 30-minute call about what's changing, who needs to know and what's been said so far, inside and outside.

  2. Audience and messages

We map your audiences, agree the key messages with your leadership and set the order in which each group hears the news.

  3. Write and approve

We draft each piece, from the board note to the media release. You approve everything before it goes anywhere.

  4. Deliver and review

The messages go out on schedule. We track the response, including media coverage in Meltwater, and adjust the next round.

Corporate communications for organisations in change

Change is where communication matters most. When Southern Cross Care relaunched its Broken Hill services under a new owner, we wrote its internal and external communications. Staff and the public heard the same message, which helped ease community concerns about service continuity.

For the Illawarra Shoalhaven Joint Organisation, we refined its messaging so councils, partners and residents could see its regional impact. For Mallee's Living Histories, we clarified the story and wrote pitch material for funders.

  • Key messages agreed with your leadership
  • An audience map: who hears what, and when
  • Board, staff and member communications
  • Media material for public announcements

Same facts, every audience, the right order.

Our communications work is charged at $175 + GST an hour, and most projects get a fixed quote after the discovery call. You only pay for the hours the job needs: a key messages document takes far fewer than a full change program. For ongoing support, a marketing partnership starts from $4,500 + GST a month and includes critical communications.

Corporate communications is how an organisation talks about itself to the people it depends on: staff, boards, members, investors, partners, government and the media. It covers key messages, announcements, reports and reputation. Put simply, it means everyone gets one accurate, consistent story about who you are and what you're doing.

It plans and writes the messages that keep an organisation's audiences informed and on side. That includes announcing changes, writing reports and newsletters, preparing leaders to speak, and handling media enquiries about the organisation. In a large company it's a department; in a smaller one, it's often outsourced.

In a smaller organisation, corporate communication is usually a few key jobs: the annual report, a regular newsletter, staff updates and the occasional media release. Nobody does it full time, so messages drift. An outside team can set the key messages once and write each piece when it's needed.

Start with three or four key messages your leaders agree on, then check every document against them. Tell staff before the public, write for each audience separately, and cut jargon. Finally, ask people what they understood. If the answer doesn't match what you meant, rewrite it.

Corporate communications firms usually deliver a communications strategy, key messages, written materials for each audience and media support. Some add design, video or events. With us you get Emma's planning and writing, Andrew's journalism background and our design team, all from one regional agency you can call.

Look past the size of the client list. Ask who will actually write your material, whether they've worked with organisations like yours, and how they handle a fast-moving announcement. The top corporate communications agencies for one organisation may be wrong for another. If you need a single newsletter, a freelance writer may suit you better, and we'll say so.

Usually the CEO or an executive assistant, alongside their real job. Corporate affairs and communications covers government relations, stakeholders and public messaging, which is a lot for one person. We can take on the planning and writing, so your leaders only need to approve and deliver the messages.
