A page plan before layout
We map every section to a page count before design starts: chair's report, the year in numbers, program stories, governance and financial statements. You see the whole report on one sheet and approve it first.
Creative & Design
Annual report design for councils, not-for-profits and member organisations that need a report people will read, built from your own text and figures.
Annual reports
Rock Solid Marketing provides annual report design for councils, water corporations, not-for-profits and member organisations across Australia, working from your own text and financial statements. We designed an annual report for Lower Murray Water and report layouts for the Far West Joint Organisation.
Your annual report has more readers than any other document you produce. The board signs it off, funders check it against their grants, members skim it for highlights, and parts of it go to a regulator. Yet it often arrives a few weeks before the AGM as a pile of Word files and a spreadsheet.
Our designer, Rachel Ehrat, turns that pile into a report with a clear page plan, readable charts and your brand on every page. Design time is $175 + GST an hour. Every report starts with a free 30-minute discovery call and a quote in hours.

What we design
Each part of the report has a different reader, so each one gets its own treatment. The skimmer gets a summary, the auditor gets tables and the community gets stories.
We map every section to a page count before design starts: chair's report, the year in numbers, program stories, governance and financial statements. You see the whole report on one sheet and approve it first.
Income, members, clients supported or kilometres of pipe: whatever your year is measured in, we turn it into simple charts and infographic pages. Each one is checked against your spreadsheet before sign-off.
Audited statements keep their exact wording and figures. We set the tables in consistent type, columns and notes, so a long financial section is easy to follow and still matches what your auditor signed.
The report uses your logo, colours and fonts, with photos from your own year. If your brand guide is thin, we set the type styles and colour rules once, so next year's report starts from the same base.
Most readers open the report as a PDF on a phone or laptop. Alongside the high-resolution print file, we export a lighter digital file with a clickable contents page and bookmarks for each section.
We work back from your AGM or deadline, agree when the final text and audited figures arrive, and set the proof rounds to suit. Late changes to the financials are common, so we plan room for them.

Rachel EhratCreator Of All Things Amazing!TasmaniaHow it works
Most of the hours go into the sample spreads and the proof rounds, so we agree both before you see a quote.
A free 30-minute call about the report, who reads it, roughly how many pages it runs to and the date of your AGM.
We write up the page plan and quote the design hours at $175 + GST an hour. Work starts once you approve it.
You approve the cover, a story page and a financial page. They set the type, colours and chart style for every other page.
We lay out the whole report from your final text. Your team marks up each proof, and we make the changes.
After sign-off you get the print PDF for your printer, a lighter digital PDF and a highlights graphic for social media.
Before layout starts
A report moves fastest when the words are final before layout starts. You send the approved text for each section, the audited financial statements, your logo files and the photos you want to use. If you have last year's report, send that too: it shows what your board expects.
We then design the cover and two sample spreads (a story page and a financial page) for you to approve. Once the look is set, the rest of the report follows it, and your team marks up each proof round in the PDF.
Need help with the words? Our copywriters can edit or write sections, quoted separately in hours.
Final words first, then design: that keeps the quote accurate.

What you get
We design and supply the files; printing is paid to the printer you choose, and writing or editing is quoted separately. As an estimate, a 16 to 32 page report with final text supplied takes about 20 to 40 hours of design. That's about $3,500 to $7,000 + GST.

All FAQsAnnual report design with us costs $175 + GST an hour, quoted in hours before work starts. As an estimate, a 16 to 32 page report with final text supplied usually takes 20 to 40 hours, so about $3,500 to $7,000 + GST. More pages, more charts or late changes to the financials raise it. Reusing last year's layout lowers it.
It depends on the page count and how fast proofs come back, so we set the dates with you when you approve the quote. The layout itself moves quickly. The waiting is usually for audited figures, board comments and each proof round. Tell us your AGM date on the discovery call, and we'll plan backwards from it with room for a late financial change.
Start with the readers and a page plan, not the cover. List who reads the report (board, funders, members, a regulator) and what each one needs. Give every section a page count, then lock the text. Design a cover and two sample spreads, apply that look to every page, and finish with a print PDF and a lighter digital version.
A good annual report puts the year's main result on the first spread and makes every number easy to check. Open with a one-page summary of highlights. Use one chart style throughout and label each chart in plain words. Keep audited figures exactly as signed, and use real photos from your year rather than stock images.
We need final, approved text for each section and the audited financial statements. Add your logo files, brand colours, fonts and the photos you want used, plus last year's report if you have one. Text that changes after layout starts adds hours, so it pays to get board approval on the words before a designer opens the annual report file.
Yes, as a separate quote. Most organisations write their own report and we design from their text. If you'd like help, our copywriters can edit drafts, write the chair's message from a short interview, or tighten your program stories. That writing is quoted in hours too, so you see the cost before anyone starts.
No, we design and supply the files, and you choose the printer. The print PDF is set up with bleed, crop marks and the colour settings your printer asks for. If you're unsure which paper or binding suits your page count, we'll talk it through so you can ask your printer for an accurate quote.
Yes. As a report design agency we also lay out strategic plans, impact reports, funding submissions and capability statements. We created report layouts for the Far West Joint Organisation and a funding pitch document for Mallee's Living Histories. When you compare any report design company, ask to see a long, number-heavy layout it has done.
Often, but not always. A small club or community group with an 8-page report can do well with a clean template. If a template will do the job, we'll tell you before we quote, and we can build one in Canva (from $800 + GST). A designer saves the most time on longer reports with financials, charts and several audiences.
